Comments: First introduced in 1934, the Dixon was a member of a new line of Hamilton's manufactured specifically in the "lower priced" category. This was Hamilton's first foray into the "reasonably priced" watch market and the line was developed to compete directly with Elgin and Waltham who sold significantly more watches than Hamilton. The 1934 Hamilton Catalog describes this line which included the Drake and Scott in the following way:

"Here is an entirely new group of Hamilton watches priced well under Hamilton's customary minimum. They are exceedingly well designed, sturdily constructed, and carry the popular 987 Hamilton strap watch movement which is both accurate and dependable. It has 17 extra fine ruby and sapphire jewels, double roller escapement, sapphire pallets, Breguet hairspring and compensation balance. Available in 10K gold filled only."

Interestingly, the Dixon was originally offered in both white and yellow gold-filled. In 1937 however, Hamilton stopped producing the Dixon in white gold-fill and only offered it in yellow gold-fill. Yellow gold was becoming increasingly more popular and was quickly replacing green gold which was popular during the 1920's. There were 39,593 yellow gold-filled Dixon's manufactured - significantly more than the 5,174 white gold-filled Dixon's made.
