Comments: The Grant was named for Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president of the United States and general of the the Union forces during the Civil War. The Grant was introduced in 1933 in a Wadsworth 10K yellow gold-filled case and later in 10K white gold-filled and 14K yellow and white gold-filled versions. The sterling silver Grant was manufactured in only 3,200 examples and this pristine example sports Egyptian style "Luminous Figures" as opposed to the alternate variation of Breguet numeral "Raised Gold Figures."
Silver is typically an uncommon metal for the construction of a watch case and accordingly, silver was not commonly used by Hamilton. The other silver cased Hamiltons include the Cushion Wire Lug circa 1917, Cushion circa 1922, the Cushion "Form Opening" circa 1926, the Barrel circa 1927 and the Greeley (Clinton) in 1932.
Interestingly, the vast majority of silver Grants produced, were made in 1933, the Grant's first year of production.
