Comments: The Hastings was introduced in 1928 and along with the Meadowbrook and Piping Rock, was the first Hamilton watch that was not named after a geometrical shape (i.e., Cushion, Barrel, Tonneau, Square, Rectangular and Oval). Overall, the Hastings was a very popular watch - in its six years of production, Hamilton manufactured over 26,000 examples of the Hastings in both gold-filled and solid gold cases.
Initially, the Hastings was only offered with the 17 jewel 987 movement for both gold and gold-filled versions. On July 24th 1931, Hamilton issued a letter to wholesalers recalling all 987 movements in solid 14K gold cases (including the Hastings) and replaced the 987 movements with the 19-jewel 979 movements at no cost to the wholesale trade and without increasing the price of the models. Henceforward, only gold-filled Hastings were sold with the 17 jewel 987 movement.
Although not advertised in early Hamilton catalogs, Hamilton did produce green gold-filled Hastings.
This example is a rare 14K solid gold version of the Hastings and it contains a 979-F 19-jewel movement.
