Comments: The Rutledge was introduced on September 19th 1935 when a total of 70 examples were shipped out to wholesalers.  It was Hamilton's first production model that was made exclusively in platinum.  The Meadowbrook was offered in platinum (17 examples) but it was also available in 14K yellow and white gold as well.  Additionally, Hamilton made platinum Piping Rocks (8 examples) and Special Presentation watches (40 examples) but each were special orders.

The Rutledge was a Depression era issue and although production numbers are not known, partial production records indicate that fewer than 325 were made in each of its production years.  It appeared in every Hamilton catalog up until 1941 and after a ten year hiatus, Hamilton announced the Cambridge, Hamilton's newest platinum offering as the Rutledge's replacement.

Priced at $175.00 in 1935, the Rutledge (along with the 18K gold Richmond), was Hamilton’s flagship watch and served as a reminder to the public that Hamilton was America's premier watch company.
